The mission of the Helena Public Art Committee is to promote public art works in the Helena community and to inform residents and visitors about the many pieces available to the public for their enjoyment.

The Helena Public Art Committee (HPAC) will host its second annual Open Studios Tour of working artist studios in the Helena area from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM, Saturday, September 11, 2010. The Tour is intended to give the public a wonderful opportunity to visit artists at work, allowing the viewer to learn more about the creative process of art.

Tickets are $10 each for this fundraiser to support public art projects in Helena. Ticket holders are eligible for a special drawing for prizes featuring select restaurants, "Yellow Iris" acrylic painting, a hand painted gourd and a $50 gift certificate. A limited number of tickets are available and may be purchased after September 1st at Birds and Beasley's, Leslie's Hallmark in the Capitol Hill Mall, Montana Book Company, Placer Market, the Holter Museum of Art, Upper Missouri Artists Gallery, and Room 445 on the 4th floor of the City-County Building, 316 N. Park Avenue; cash or check only please. Tickets are also available from HPAC members.

Tour participants can visit more than 20 artists as they work in their studios to create jewelry, beads, fiber arts, painting, pen and ink, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, gourds, prints, graphic design, and architecture. This year's featured artists include Bonnie Lambert, Ken Saunders, Al Swanson, Sandy Shull, Tim Holmes, Dave Carlson, George McCauley, Andrea Atwood, Linda Parker, Bob and Judi Bennett, Margot Wright, Eric Van Eimeren, Jim Howard, Robin Maynard, Helena Printmakers Guild, Signs Now and Dowling Sandholm Architecture. The Archie Bray Foundation, Clay Arts Guild, Holter Museum, and the Upper Missouri Artists Gallery will also be part of the tour.

Celebration of New Public Art Installation


The public is invited to attend the Helena Public Art Committee's celebration of the installation of "Take It Easy," the city's new public art located in the Butte-Sanders traffic circle at 10:00 AM, Monday, Aug. 9, 2010.

Artist Kirsten Kainz will discuss her creative process and her challenges involved in creating the sculptures. City Commissioner Paul Cartwright will help with the festivities.
