In 2007, the marble George Washington statue was restored by sculptor Richard Ellis and placed inside the Lewis and Clark County Courthouse. The statue is one of the oldest pieces of art in Helena, originally commissioned by county commissioners in 1888.

Originally installed outside on the north side of the Lewis and Clark County Courthouse, the weather was not kind to the 100+ year old soft marble statue of George Washington.
