Chalk Up Helena! - Coming July 19, 2014
Chalk artists of all ages are invited to join the City of Helena Public Art Committee (HPAC) for family-friendly Chalk-Up Helena! on Saturday, July 19, from 9 am-4 pm. Come draw chalk pictures all over the sidewalk on the Trolley Block of the Downtown Walking Mall, one block north of the Library.
This year's theme is Helena's 150th Birthday. The winning art will receive prizes with Judges and Peoples Choice awards! This year’s judges are City Commissioner Katherine Haque-Hausrath, artist Sally Angove, and Amy Barrett, owner of Lasso the Moon.
Chalk and water are provided to participants with the registration fee: 10 years old and younger, $5/square or free if you bring your own chalk; 18 years old or younger, $5/square; 19 years old and older, or a group (includes an adult creating chalk art with a child), $10/square. Participants may choose to create their chalk art from two sizes: 3 x 3 feet or 4 x 6 feet.
All artwork must be appropriate for public viewing by all ages. No words or symbols intended as advertising may appear in the image. Only chalk pastels in a solid form may be used. No liquid pastels, acrylic paints, fixatives, etc. are permitted. Participants may bring shade (umbrella, canopy, etc.) and something to kneel on; sunscreen is encouraged.
Chalk Up Helena! reserves the right to take and use photographs. You can get some good technique information at http://www.streetpainting.net.
